The sweet corn season is in full swing here in northern Wisconsin. And the Sweet Corn Pillow by designer Weng Jie is a one-of-a-kind design that takes the meaning of ‘comfort food’ quite literally.
Sweet Corn Pillow is comprised of a roll-out mat and individual corn kernel pillows. The kernels attach to the corncob (the roll-out mat) with hook-and-loop fasteners. The user can start a pillow-fight by removing the individual kernels and throwing them at their friends. The corncob can be rolled out into a play mat. On it, the user can arrange the kernels and create different shapes and patterns.
The official product description reads, “This fancy Sweetcorn Pillow is for relaxation purposes through rest and not by mouth. Had enough sleep? Then start a pillow fight by plucking the corns out from those velcros and target your friends and party-goers! The Sweetcorn Pillow makes all your corny fantasies come true. Pluck them, chuck them, play with them, but please don’t butter and eat them. Is this novel? Mmm hmm. A bit ridiculous? You betcha! Do you want this? Damn skippy!”
The giant ear of corn won a Red Dot Design Award back in 2010. I’ll be honest. It doesn’t look comfortable, but it does look cool.
